At a time when democratic institutions and public confidence in them are under growing pressure, housing insecurity, economic uncertainty and other challenges are also increasing the need for legal help among individuals and communities. This moment calls not only for continued effort, but for renewed vision and action.
THE ROADMAP FOR CHANGE SET US ON A PATH.
It’s been over a decade since the Action Committee’s Roadmap for Change recognized the crisis of access to justice in Canada. And there has been progress: this new vision builds on the important shift that has begun towards people-centred justice, with emerging practices rooted in collaboration and prevention.
NOW WHAT?
Justice as a common good means viewing justice as: accessible, prevention-oriented, focused on outcomes, and sustained through collective responsibility.
Coordinated action around the principles and design practices rooted in prevention, pathways, reflective and inclusive design, evidence, learning, and resourcing can make justice as a common good a reality.
